Dundurn Castle Hamilton
Why is Dundurn Castle in Hamilton the best engagement location
Although Hamilton is fortunate to have an abundance of natural resources with over 2850 acres of open space property at 116 locations, over 49 kilometres of trails, over 3480 acres of parkland at 394 locations, offering a diversity of landscapes from beaches to forests, and scenic waterfalls, my favourite setting for engagement photo shooting has to be the Dundurn Castle.
Being one of the National Historic Sides of Canada, Dundurn castle was originally conceived to entertain personalities in the 19th Century such as Sir John Alexander Macdonald, ex-prime minister of Canada, or King Edward VII, King of the British Empire.
Its neoclassical architectural features of streamlined style defined by the dramatic use of greco-roman columns and a grandeur of scale with a preference for blank buildings offers an ideal atmosphere for a wedding or engagement ceremony for its particular solemness and purity.
Indeed, this is the very castle where the wedding of the daughter of Sir Allan MacNab, Premier of the United Province of Canada in 1854, took place. Columns and portico were added to the Dundurn Castle for that effect, emphasizing on the aforementioned neoclassical style, which renders the site exceptional for official ceremonies, in particular romantic-related ones.
Because of this rich history, Dundurn Castle conveys the feeling of stepping back in time, and immortalizing the ceremonial moment by wrapping it with a feeling of eternity. This is what I would like to offer through my photography: a classical surrounding for a unique moment in life to remember, suspended in time between the past and the present.
Surrounded by majestic trees, especially in autumn when they are draped in their magnificent Indian summer colours, Dundurn Castle will be the perfect spot for the most poetic wedding or engagement photographs.
