The Bistro and Bar connects internally to the Ballroom, so guests can have cocktails there while the Ballroom is flipped for dinner, and it opens onto a private patio. The venue also has Cassette, a cocktail bar, and the Record Room, a private dining space for intimate gatherings. The bar offers an exquisite selection of premium cocktails in a refined atmosphere where contemporary sophistication meets timeless vintage elegance.

As a documentary wedding photographer in Toronto, I am always drawn to weddings that celebrate real emotion, family, and cultural traditions. Elizabeth and Kieran’s wedding at Gladstone House was a beautiful reflection of all three, blending meaningful heritage with heartfelt moments throughout the day.

Elizabeth’s Chinese background was honored through a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, an intimate and emotional experience centered on respect, gratitude, and family connection. Kieran’s Japanese Canadian heritage added another thoughtful layer to the celebration, culminating in a deeply personal ceremony officiated by his father, Lee. Having the groom’s dad lead the ceremony created an atmosphere filled with warmth, sincerity, and genuine emotion.

It’s best suited to intimate and mid sized weddings. Capacities can change, so always confirm current numbers with the Gladstone House events team.

Can we have our ceremony and reception in the same space at Gladstone House?

Yes. Many couples hold both in the Ballroom. While guests enjoy cocktails in the connected Bistro and Bar, the venue team resets the Ballroom for dinner. From a photography point of view, this works really well: I can capture candid cocktail hour moments next door while the room transformation happens, and your guests never have to leave the building.

Where are the best photo spots at Gladstone House?

Gladstone House is full of character, which makes it a wonderful place to photograph. My favourite spots include the exposed brick walls and tall windows of the Ballroom, the art filled hallways, the balcony, the play area with a chess game and a pool table, the beautifully restored hand operated elevator from 1903, and the guest suites, some of which have views over Queen Street.

Can we get ready at Gladstone House?

Yes. Because Gladstone House (formerly called Gladstone Hotel) is a boutique hotel, couples and their wedding party can book guest rooms for getting ready. This is a big advantage for photography: your morning, first look, portraits, ceremony, and reception can all happen in one building, which means less travel time and more time for real moments.

How many hours of photography coverage do I need for a Gladstone House wedding?

Most couples choose 8 hours, which comfortably covers getting ready, portraits, the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, speeches, and the first dances. If you’re including cultural traditions such as a tea ceremony, or longer party/dancing, I recommend adding time so those moments are never rushed.
